QUICK REFERENCE FOR TEXAS TECH COURSES

 

Course Prefix: Are four characters in length (including spaces). Course prefix are always four characters.
              
Course Number: Courses are numbered according to the following:
      0001 to 4999 - Undergraduate
      5000 and above - Graduate
      6000 - Always THESIS
      7000 - Research
      8000  - Doctoral dissertation  
     
Courses that begin with a “0” are remediation courses such as XL, TASP, MATH, or ENGL 
          
      
Level: At the Undergraduate level:

1 - Freshman,
2 - Sophomore,
3 - Junior,
4 - Senior;
 

At the Graduate level:

5 - Master,
6 - Doctoral,
7 - Professional/Law.

The second number indicates the credit hours (i.e. 4300  is a senior level course that carries three hours of credit).   

      
            
 Texas CIP Code 10-digit code assigned from the Texas CIP Code taxonomy for each course.   
          
Variable Credit Courses:  Are indicated by a second number of 0 (i.e., 5001 is a variable credit course that could carry 1-12 hours of credit).

  (IND) Independent Study Student works independently with only minimal faculty direction.
(INT) Interview Interview
(LAB) Laboratory Instructing, preparing, and supervising student investigations.
(LEC) Lecture Formal presentation, primarily one way communication
(LLB) Lecture/Lab Combined lecture and lab.
  (MCE) Multiple Course Entry Multiple Course Entry base course. This is used to set up groups of courses to be used for block registration.
(MST) Masters Thesis Preparation of the Masters Thesis.
(PRC) Practicum Practicum
(PRI) Private Lesson Students work one to one with instructor.
(RCT) Recitation Students engaged in discussions with  faculty.
(REM) Remediation Remediation
(RES) Research Independent investigation
(SEM) Seminar Students carry the major responsibility  for preparation.
(SLF) Self Pace Self Pace
(STU) Studio Studio
(THS) Thesis Thesis
(WSP) Workshop Workshop
(XCL) No Credit Lab No Credit Lab
